Firestone Air Picker & Air Grippers

These end effectors offer the user a wide range of advantages over traditional pick and place work holding devices. Simply by varying the air pressure in the picker or gripper, the user can conform the end effector to the diameter that is being handled and the force being applied to the workpiece. This is especially critical in applications with sensitive, thin-walled, or fragile objects. The object being picked up does not have to have a circular configuration. Since it has an elastomer bladder construction, it will conform to any shape.

Each picker or gripper can work with a wide range of diameters and workpiece weights. Firestone offers a wide range of standard configurations and sizes of AirPickers™ and AirGrippers™ end-effectors to meet most industrial applications. Special AirPickers™ and AirGrippers™ end-effectors can be, and in many cases already have been, developed to meet specific needs of a particular customer

Firestone Airstroke™ Actuators

They are different looking, and they do not work exactly like the well-known and accepted JIC cylinder. Functionally, however, air springs perform the same type of actuation tasks.

Firestone Airstroke™ actuators have long been used in the industrial market as pneumatic actuators incorporated into new and innovative machinery designs as well as replacement actuators for existing applications that had previously used traditional pneumatic or hydraulic cylinders. These replacement markets are created by the advantages of a flexible walled pneumatic actuator that is durable, operates well in corrosive and abrasive industrial environments, easily accepts misalignment, and has a high ratio of stroke to collapsed height. Each of these features give Firestone Airstroke™ actuators the advantage over traditional cylinders.

Firestone Isolators

As the name implies, it is a device that prevents one object from affecting another. It allows both objects to exist in their natural state without influence from the other. With an isolator, one of the objects is allowed to vibrate without transmitting all of the energy of that vibration to the other object.

For many years, Firestone has been in the business of designing and developing a wide range of mounts and supports to isolate vibrations that are detrimental to many industrial and manufacturing environments. The range of isolators offered by Firestone has been redefined to include two major lines of isolators - Firestone Airmount™ isolators and Firestone Marsh Mellow™ springs. Each have their distinct benefits over other typical industrial vibration isolators, and each has advantages over the other. Many industrial vibration isolation problems can be solved using either line, and a complete analysis of potential solutions to these problems should include investigating options using both lines of isolators.

Firestone Marsh Mellow™ Springs

Marsh Mellow™ is a trade name of the rubber and fabric spring developed by Firestone Industrial Products in the early 1970’s. Rubber springs have long time been a subject of interest in the vehicular suspension and industrial application fields because of their reliability, corrosion resistance, low cost, and basic simplicity. The concept has been tried with varying degrees of success over the years. The major obstacle to solid rubber springs has been that to obtain the load requirements for many applications, solid rubber springs were either physically too large, or became unstable laterally when they were made long enough to provide good isolation. The concept of “stacking” rubber springs answered the latter problem, but introduced the need for complicated mechanical guide systems to control the lateral movement.
