Tolomatic Redesigns Reverse-Parallel Housing

Other changes to improve efficiences

To help improve efficiencies and streamline their inventory and ordering procedures, Tolomatic is making some changes to several products and ordering codes.

Reverse-parallel RSA compatible with "Your Motor Here"

Reverse Parallel Housing

Tolomatic has redesigned the RP housing on the RSA24 and RSA32 for compatibility with their "Your Motor Here" program, allowing customers to match their motor with a motor mount. Pricing for the RP option will remain the same as it is currently. The RSA12, 16, 50, and 64 size RP housings are being finalized and will be released in the first quarter of 2010.

The new RP cases for the 24 and 32 sizes will be phased in as old-style RP case inventories are depleted on March 1, 2010 or before depending on stock availability. These changes will affect housing dimensions, trunnion mounts and motor compatibility as outlined below.

Housing Dimensions:
Click here for a PDF of the dimensional comparison between the new-style and old-style RP housings. A new RSA Brochure will be posted on www.tolomatic.com on March 1, 2010 (or before if housings are depleted from inventory) in the product resource section and will reflect the new RP case dimensions for these two sizes. Should you have applications where these dimensional differences affect machinery clearances, please talk to our sales team regarding any concerns.

Trunnion mounts ordered with Reverse-parallel configuration:
The new RP housings when ordered with a Trunnion mount will cause the overall length of the actuator to be slightly shorter (about .02 inches). For backwards compatibility, configure the additional length in the actuator’s stroke.

Motor compatibility:
The RSA24 will now be able to accommodate Nema 34-frame (or 80mm) motors.

Salt Bath Nitride treated thrust rod on RSA/RSM Actuators

Nitride-treated thrust rod

As soon as their inventory of nickel-plated rods is depleted, all sizes of RSA/RSM and actuators will start shipping with new Nitride treated rods. The Salt Bath Nitride treatment provides a hard, black finish to the rod. This new process is less susceptible to chipping and reduces contaminant adhesion resulting in extended actuator life.

Ordering Switches for RSA/RSM and GSA/GSM Actuators

Tolomatic Switches

Tolomatic will be phasing out the old style of DC Reed, Hall-effect, and Triac switches/hardware to the new style of switches and hardware that are used on the MX product line when ordering either RSA/RSM or GSA/GSM actuators. As a result, TRAIC switches (CT and CM) will no longer be available and the configuration codes will be changing to reflect the following new MX style switch codes:

RY: Reed switch (Normally Open) 5-m lead
RK: Reed switch (Normally Open) 5-m lead/QD
*NY: Reed switch (Normally Closed) 5-m lead
*NK: Reed switch (Normally Closed) 5-m lead/QD
TY: Solid State Switch PNP (Normally Open) 5-m lead
TK: Solid State Switch PNP (Normally Open) 5-m lead/QD
KY: Solid State Switch NPN (Normally Open) 5-m lead
KK: Solid State Switch NPN (Normally Open) 5-m lead/QD

* NY and NK reed switches are not suitable for TTL circuits.

The switch replacement kits will still be available for the old-style Universal switches and can be ordered as a separate line item.

Configuration Change for RSA/RSM and ICR Trunnion Mounts

Trunnion Mount

The trunnion mount configuration code has changed from “TRN” to “TRR” when ordering RSA/RSM and ICR actuators. This change, effective immediately is reflected in our online ordering module on ToloNet.
